Discovering and meeting the communications needs of a diverse workforce
Joyful Communications has worked with Melba Support Services, a Victoria-based disability support organisation, on several projects to support their internal communications team.
Both revolved around intranet content – getting the right information to their 1,200-strong workforce, spread around the state. However, this workforce had a large range of education levels, computer literacy and need to engage with technology at work, which meant messaging had to reach them effectively to encourage intranet use in a way that worked for each Melba employee.
Meet them where they’re at – and keep it simple
The key to success was keeping it simple – we’re talking posters and computer desktop backgrounds to reach some staff! Effective communication doesn’t have to be complex.
We also continued our work with Melba into redeveloping some intranet content, auditing the current intranet then templating the site for a mobile-first approach and considering the optimal user experience – which was for short, sharp copy (and not pages and pages of ‘fluff’!).
While this project is still ongoing (is any intranet ever truly finished?), the team at Melba are already seeing value.
Or maybe you already have a project in mind! Let’s get straight to it – we’d love to talk about your plans and how we can help.
